Elemi Essential OilBotanical Name: Canarium Commune
Origin: Philippines Closely related to the trees that give us Frankincense and Myrrh, Elemi exudes an exotic, fragrant resin when its leaves are sprouting. This yellow resin solidifies when it comes into contact with air and has a strong woody scent. Elemi is known locally as Pili and the gum is exported from the Philippines. Elemi Essential Oil is steam distilled from the gum or resin of the tree and can be hard to find in therapeutic quality. The tree is native to the Philippines and the Moluccas Islands and the oil has been historically used in ointments and salves. It is used in skin rejuvenation preparations and is said to have a balancing effect. Elemi Essential Oil has a unique fresh scent similar to frankincense but softer with exotic notes of citrus and dill. |
